Balenciaga Exhibit

If at all possible, I highly recommend visiting the Musse de la Mode for the Balenciaga Exhibit. It's a retrospective of the great Cristobal Balenciaga's work, with a feature on Nicholas Ghesquiere's more current styles.

Overall I really loved the exhibit. It was truly intriguing in that Cristobal was cleary a man far ahead of his time - so many of his vintage styles still looking modern enough to wear today. That being said; obviously Nicholas Ghesquiere cleary feels the same way. He's recently been tralling the archives for "inspiration" for the current collecitons. After such a blockbuster Fall season for Nicholas Ghesquiere - you know I'll be watching closely for his Spring 07 show.

Thanks to good friend A for the fun time in Paris and the pics!

Love it or hate - I'm telling you we're about to see a lot more PVC/latex in the coming months...

Thanks to Susie Bubble for the pic.

Sci-Fi Dominatrix

Now that I've got your attention...just wondering if S&M dominatrix is the new nautical??? If you hadn't already noticed there's enough vinyl, leather, studs, and references to the like to pique the interest of pretty much anyone. It seems that Dolce and Gabbana are either chanelling Thierry Mugler - or Marie Antoinette on crack. Other designers under the ball and chain - Gareth Pugh and Giles Deacon.

Inspiration?

Now don't think I'm hating on the genius that is Nicholas Ghesquiere...but after seeing the Balenciaga exhibit in Paris last week I think some pieces should almost be considered re-issues of Cristobal Balenciaga's original work. Check out my (bad) photo (on top) of Cristobal Balenciaga's early polka dot dress and then Nicholas Ghesquiere's redux from his Pre-Fall 06 Collection. Picture below courtesy of Balenciaga website.

Tees Me!

Based on the fact that I have a fashion blog - I guess it's somewhat safe to assume that I may also occasionly be a fashion victim? Call it what you want but I really kind of love these t-shirts by sylist/writer Henry Holland. With slogans like UHU GARETH PUGH, GILES DEACON GET YER FREAK ON, GIVE ME PAIN HEDI SLIMANE, GIVE ME A TICKLE RICHARD NICHOL and DO ME DAILY CHRISTOPHER BAILEY - they make me laugh!

The tees debuted during London Fashion Week on the backs of Gareth Pugh and Giles Deacon who cutely wore eachothers at the end of their shows. Of course they are now much sought after and only availbable at Dover St. Market in London - which really only makes me want one more! All they're missing now is...damn I have no idea what rhymes with ERDEM!

Pretty Please!

In his third season since winning Fashion Fringe, Erdem seemed to truly hit his stride. Erdem showed a concise and darling collection during London Fashion Week that seamlessly mixed classic British elements such as the trench coat, with more Parisian feeling airy botanical prints. Silhouettes included floating trapeze dresses, short shorts and swing jackets.

Who is the Erdem muse though? The mix of soft fabrics with sportier bold stripes, crisp Mac twills with floral prints kept the collection right on the edge of the modern girl's pulse.

Watch this space as I anticipate an Erdem epidemic in the next year. Stylist and celebs alike will surely be lining up.

Flower Power!

Is the flower destined to become the accessory du jour for Spring 07? From Marchesa to Rodarte,Marc Jacobs to Phillip Lim the spring runways have been a proverbial flower garden for the picking! Some subtle and some not so subtle (Rodarte??)...apparently a rose is a rose is a rose.

Marc's Harem

In what was surely one of the highlights of NY Fashion Week, Marc Jacob's did not disappoint with his Spring 07 presentation. Set to the strains of Pashelbel (was this his dry humour?), models strutted out in a silhouette reminiscent of Poiret and the early 1900's. Uneven ruffles in the palest silks, baggy pleated harem pants (yes people harem pants), long bomber silhouettes, easy over-sized tees and dropped waistlines looked refreshing after seeing many versions of Chloe's Fall show redone in spring colours. And after the huge success of recent collections I dare say by the time Feb roles around...we may all be part of Marc's Harem.

In Love with Lim Part 2

Lovely to finally see Lim do a full runway presentation! Romantic day/night pieces with Lim's now signature artful details - small rose buds, delicate fabrics and the sheerest silk chiffon mixed with casual cotton twill. Colour was mainly a quiet palette of bright white and soft off-white with intense flashes of brilliant cobalt blue and even a surprising mixed small floral. Shapes du jour include - the tapeze dress, bubble dress, cropped jackets, shorts, the new high-waisted silhouette - and every girls best friend the waist emphasizing dress! Enjoy....

Ode to Irina!

OK - I know I should be talking spring with the kick-off of New York Fashion week... and believe me I will definitely be obsessing about all things Spring in the coming weeks. However - in the meantime I'm absolutely taken with these pics from the Balenciaga website. They feature Montreal native, Kate Moss besty, Irina Lazareaunu in the Balenciaga Fall 06 PRE collection.

Now don't get me wrong! It's not that I don't love the fall collection but after so much press and hoopla I just don't feel quite the same about it now that it's actually here! Quite unlike the PRE collection which gets relatively NO press. Sigh. I don't know if it's the porportions or Irina, or the combo of the two! But I'm smitten.
