Barney's Girl I Am

I'm flying into New York next week for a precious few hours (business of course). Meantime - my brain has gone into over-drive trying to 'schedule' in an hour of shopping in the Big Apple. For those of you that haven't heard the Canadian dollar is at an all-time high (on-par with the US dollar!) so all of a sudden my waredrobe seems a little barren. Let's have a look at what I'm missing....

....Holiday parties in the near future. Need something fringy and fabulous....

.....something to keep me warm during the longggggg Montreal winter (other than the boyf)...

....shoes. Not too soft, not too hard....

......ok and these are just for fun.....

Considering I will really only have ONE hour I'm thinking I'll focus my efforts at Barney's. Advice?

Yes, I think it's a good plan. When my friends fly in we do the Holy Trinity: Barneys, Bergdorf & Bendels. But Barneys is the most comprehensive and fun. Bonne chance et bon voyage! xx

Love that! Might have to get religious in NY myself;)

I don't have any advice on quick shopping in NY, but I must say that that coat is adorable.
Barney's seems like a good idea though.
Good luck and have fun

cheesy as it is, if you head to soho you can get to barney's coop and my other favorites: jill stuart, j crew, intermix, ina, sigerson morrison, and prada (if only to press your nose against the glass and sigh). just stay away from broadway unless you are suicidal.

enjoy!

ooo, this is a tough one. on the one hand, b.b.&b. are or can be great... but there is something to be said for em's point about soho. i find it totally crowded and lacking a good vibe on the weekend, BUT the boutiques are quite good, especially if you make yourself a map. and during the week soho is quiet. i guess it depends on what is accessible to you where you are, and what is a golden shopping opportunity. intermix can be overwhelming if you only have an hour, but if you keep your blood sugar up, you can handle it. the coop, apc and agnes b., plus anna sui. if you're feeling homesick, lol, m0851 is down there too.

Forget Barneys and forget soho. They're cool places, but if you really want something unique that no one else will have go to the Village! If you want an amazing coat go to An Ren (it's on about 9th street between 1st and 2nd). Jil Anderson is just a block away and has great individual clothes. There are tons of cute hat stores around there too and some cute boutiques like Pinko and tons of vintage stores as well. If you must go to Soho (which is much better than Barneys) go to Eva Boutique, The Good the Bad and The Ugly, Fluevog, and Built by Wendy (they're all within two blocks of each other). Happy shopping!

Oooo! So much advice and so little time! I don't know if it's possible to do the Holy Trinity in an hour...so I may have to choose between Soho or Barney's. I adore the village but again I think this may be overly ambitious for the hour I have! Anyhow, thanks glossy ladies for all the great advise! Bisous,

anonymous - no question about it, there are more fantastic places to explore in ny than barneys or soho, but with just an hour, i don't think the lovely glossy e will have the time to do the city's shopping justice. she wants some fast fabulousness.
good luck glossy e

(i do not want to put a damper on your fun, but i do just want to add that the last time i was in barneys, i was very disappointed. i doubt i'll be returning there.)

Advice? Sharpen your elbows and get ready for speed shopping. Good luck!

Another vote for Soho...mainly because of APC and Built by Wendy...

I also have to agree with editor - the last time I was in Barneys it seemed very lacklustre.

Where ever you choose, happy shopping!

i love that last pair of shoes you posted about. gorgeous and with a knit tight/knee high sock it'll be just the trick for the winter.
