Campus Cool Part 2

It's truly all in the impeccable details. A rare up-close and personal look at key pieces from the Fall 07 Balenciaga collection. Enjoy.

*OK so Zara's versions didn't look quite this good!

Campus Cool

OF COURSE Balenciaga's multi-cultural, collegiate collection of school girl blazers, ethnic scarves and jodphurs made the cut for the coveted September cover of my favorite (you know it) -- Vogue Nippon. I can already see the REAL Harajuku girls (not Gwen's exploited versions) interpreting this in their own way - the whole mix screamed of modern Japanese influences. My question is more about the title "Reality Vogue". Is this in reference to the "wearability" of the collection or the reality that you can already purchase those coveted pieces at Zara?? Just asking.

Wide and Wonderful

I've been considering the current state of my denim repertoire and have decided that it's utterly boring. I haven't yet set fire to my skinnies - I will let you know - but I've definitely had a yen for something a little wider and higher. I found this fierce femme on Facehunter and decided that perhaps she should be the how-to. Obviously the hair and the steely stare make the outfit - but I what I really love is her subtle 70's vibe and of course...the confidence!

Nooooo!

It can't be true? Teen Vogue on the chopping block!? Page Six speculated today that it may follow Jane's footsteps down the doomsday path and be the next mag to get the axe. Jane I understand...but Teen Vogue?? The only positive thing that would come of that would be a real story line for The Hills. Comments??

Dress Quest

Don't you find that whenever you really need to buy a dress there's not a decent one around...and somehow when you're not shopping for anything "special" there are dresses-a-plently??? Why is that? Are the dress Gods play games with us?

That happens to be my current situation - I'm heading to my brother's wedding in less than a month and there's no dress in sight. I'm not in the bridal party - and have no desire to look like I want to be and am therefore avoiding all dresses too "pretty" - anything too sexy...too long...too short....

....until I found this one on net-a-porter! It's actually Proenza Schouler Fall 06 - but what I of love is that it's a bit serious and somewhat tailored with a pop of colour.

The downfall? Even on sale it's still rings in at $1036US! Ouch! It's Fall 06 after all? Would the high end net-a-porter customer even wear a dress 2 seasons old?

Shoe Special Part 2

The August issue of Teen Vogue is a veritable Back to School special. And whilst I may not technically be headed BTS (ahem)...I still enjoy shelling out some of my hard-earned dough on some quality pieces to take me into the season. As I flipped through the issue, one pair of sheos in particular caught my attention...umm...can you say PIERRE HARDY HIGH-TOPS!!! Hello! (Sorry for the valley-girl quip but I think it was called for!) OMG! And the funny thing about it was that they were in the same issue TWICE! (Once in the editorial and once on PG 201 below). I'm guessing someone at Teen Vogue (hopefully not LC) has a shoe-crush on them too? My only problem being that their "shopping guide" provided no guidance - only stating "price upon request - see website." WTF??

If anyone out there has a hook-up...I would be eternally indebted. Seriously - The Glossy Ed.

Shoe Special Part 1

High summer sale-time means one thing for me - SHOES!

By this time in the season I'm pretty much over the summer styles. My thinking is: if I didn't want it while it was full price - surely I'm not going to be interested if it's jammed on a sale rack with a red tag swinging from it's formerly lovely label? I know there's many a girl out there that lives for a bargain...I'm just not one of them. Not to mention Montreal has one of the longest, most unforgiving winters. A winter that pretty much requires an extreme make-over on one's waredrobe. The shift in temperature from August to November is literally 30 degrees celcius. Translation: nothing goes forward.

That is - unless we're talking SHOES. Shoes seem to extend well beyond the season they were designed for. For example - I'm thinking I will be wearing these Miu Miu lovelies well into fall. I'm picturing them with clean, sporty outfits inspired by Marni/Chloe...opaque tights and a shift dress...sporty parka or skinny jeans/ blazer/ scarf (a la Balenciaga).

What are you taking with you into Fall?

Schizophrenic Chic

Julia Dunstall mixing it up for my favorite - Vogue Nippon. Continuing strong into fall the item we've all come to love - leggings. I don't care if they've topped every worst dressed list (who really gives a %^&* about Us Weekly??). If you're truly daring turn it up a notch with some patterns a la Japanese Vogue (the move on from gold an rubber??)...if not stick to basic black.

Irina's Famous Chapeau...

According to insider info...who's hat is Irina wearing?

Hint: She's making an album with his son.

Front Row Footwear...

Alright - full apologies! I took a brief hiatus from blogging - but I'm back! I missed you all desperately and couldn't quite deal with all the silence. I last left off discussing my high-summer gear for St. Tropez/Ibiza and gladiators were the topic. Since then I've discovered some "glad-i-haters" out there...and I'd like to take a moment to support my point....

If they're good enough for Anna Della Russo and Carine Roitfeld (below) - they're good enough for me. Whilst in Ibiza I acutally fell quite literally head-over-heels for these puppy's...

and I all but had them in a bag swung over my shoulder and was half way through the shop door, when it occured to me to try them on. That's when my dreams came tumbling down. Usually not one to shy away from some extreme height in my heels - I was however picturing wearing them at my brother's summer wedding with some slighty demure dress...thinking that the shoes would give the outfit the perfect "edge" - when I realised due to their staggering height their expiration time was about 10 minutes standing upright!! (Question: are gladiators acceptable footwear for a wedding??)

Now if you happen to be Queen of French Vogue then I would suppose Conde Naste would pay for car service to and from the shows...and all Carine has to do is look lovely wearing them SITTING in the front row.

(There is one other place they would be most appropriate...however I wasn't sure they would get the full appreciation they deserved!)
