Apocalypse Now!
...was how I felt upon seeing what the Mulleavy sisters had been up to for spring 09. I know this post is grossly over-due - but after spying a few of the back stage shots of Rodarte's "Star Wars" inspired footwear - I felt the need to shout out loud.
Who could make such a dark collection so feminine all at the same time? Who knew that leather and chains could look light as a feather? And lastly - who cares if Hollywood won't wear it? Please! (If only a few more of the American designers cared a little less about the red carpet?!)

Their collections are getting better & better! The dresses are simply gorgeous, and I really don't see why a great actress wouldn't wear them on the red carpet.. and the shoes.. speechless! I want them. Now.

the rodarte sister universe is so fuckin great ! unique ! brilliant and so so peculiar !!
what Laird failed to take into account is that those same women who sat front row - the ones who need to imagine themselves in "wearable" versions of the sisters' confections - already wear the label with minimal effort [although possibly maximum amounts of two way tape]. Natalie has worn Rodarte on the red carpet, and Dr. Lisa Airan has worn a full blown, unapologetic, study in volumes type suit to events. To confine them to the genre of editorialism is a black-hearted statement toward their innovative nature

dare i say amazing? the designing of everything, from head to toes is very creative and the overall appeal is killer. I agree, i wish more designers cared less about 'red carpet' ... love your blog as usual.

The shoes are amazing designed by Nicolas Kirkwood for spring 09' collection. The Mulleavy sister are so nice in person. Very sweet.
