The Rights of Spring

I'm officially on vacation for the next 10 days. I'm heading to a remote ski hill in British Columbia for my retreat. I've been working like a bit of a maniac - and my exit from the office last night was mayhem. I think I'm in need of a "fashion break". Since January I've travelled to Tokyo, Hong Kong, Paris and London - worked through about 5 of my weekends and so I feel like I deserve this god-damn-it!

That being said - I'm hoping upon my return to Montreal all the snow will have melted and spring will have truly sprung. (This might be wishful thinking.) I'm looking forward to the simple pleasures of spring - open toed shoes and ditching my (lovely) but tired winter coat.

This shoot for Vogue China featuring Polish beauty Malgosia sums up my optimistic mood - florals and sunshine a-plenty. Wishing you all a lovely spring - wherever you might be my Glossy ones. Bisous, The Glossy Ed.

I'm In Love With a Leather Jacket...

...and of course it is by createur extraordinaire Rick Owens. The price tag at NAP is $2210. Ahem. No need to state that it is a little out of reach. All I can do now is pray that Katie Grand likes it as much as me and is "inspired" by it for Kate Moss for Topshops Fall 08 collection. Oh. You did know Katie was the one behind it no?

Amanda Laine

The newest Canadian export to hit the runways this season did not disappoint. The 16 year old Torontonian got her start via V Magazine/Supreme Management V A Model search only a few short months ago. And in what seemed like minutes she was stomping the runways of Prada, Louis Vuitton, Nina Ricci, Dries, Marni, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen amongst others. She managed to open Miu Miu and McQueen and closed Louis Vuitton. Clearly this is just the beginning. The question that remains is which campaigns is she sure to scoop? Predictions??

Miss Moss by Hedi Slimane

Say what you want about Mossy but she's looking pretty fine for 34. Shot by Hedi Slimane for Liberation... I love the slutty innocence portrayed here that she's so damn good at evoking. (Mind you I might have expected something slightly edgier from Slimane??) However, nothing that you haven't seen before (including her girls).

Make It Modern!!

You can disagree with me if you want - but I'm putting it out there that I'm sick and tired of all that naive, retro, H&M, Marc by Marc, See by Chloe, vintage looking shit. You know what I'm talking about. It's somewhat girly...over-sized buttons, retro 70's references. Enough is enough. MOVE ON GOD-DAMN-IT! I want something new and I want them to make it modern! Rant over.

By now you probably know that I'm having a slightly dark, moody moment that may have slight Alexander Wang/grunge undertones. (Nothing at all to do with the 4 feet of snow currently covering the city). I happened upon the Haider Ackermann Fall 08 collection and it seemed to sum-up my state of mind. Long layers, dense draping, lean silhouettes and some leather. What more could a girl want?

Leather Lovin'

I haven't been on net-a-porter for some time as things have been so crazy-busy at work/home/life in general. However - Montreal was hit with a MAJAH snow storm today (we are apparently getting 30-50 cm of snow!) so I have been holed up inside getting some quality couch time with my pooch and Macbook when I happened to discover something funny: the editors of net-a-porter seem as consumed by their leather jackets as I am at the moment.

Everytime I clicked on an item to view it up close, up popped a well-styled emsemble that seemed to always include a black leather motorcycle jacket!

Check it out for yourself - day with leather, evening with leather and weekend with...you guessed it leather. I acquired a cute leather jacket awhile ago that has been serving me very well. Like net-a-porter I too seem to find that it seems to improve any and all outfits at the moment. I could even possibly find space in my wardrobe for a second style - however the price tag seems a little steep. Next on my shopping list: leather pants.

Black Eyes

Dark, moody and brooding.

Oh wait - am I describing Fall 08 or how I'm feeling under 4 feet of snow here in Montreal? My jaunt to Paris and London was definitely a reprieve. With balmy temperatures hovering around 10 degrees Celcius and of course some serious credit card excercise, it was just what the doctor ordered. I wasn't overly impressed by the shopping in Paris...too much boho for my dark mood. But London! or more specifically All Saints was amazing. Long length glazed blazers, paper-bag waist minis, drapey deconstructed sweaters.... you get the point.

Apologies for missing all of the Fashion Weeks. I'm sure you've all been following along like the addicts that you are. The models can now retreat home - grateful that the make-up trend of the season could cover such a multitude of sins. Hmm. Note to self - must try that. Bisous, The Glossy Ed.
