Who are the Real Fashion Superheroes?

I have no illusions about "fashion originality". I like to call it recycling. Shows in the big tents are often a compilation of recycled and referenced ideas from past runway seasons and unfortunately this epidemic is not confined to the tents - it spills over into editorials and "inspired" covers too. Yes, the true originators are pretty much few and far between. Which is why I was so enamored with a little fashion comic that was published in limited run last year called Petit Mal. It was the brain child of Mark Vassalo - style director for Australia's Harper's Bazaar. It featured backstage shots from the Fall 07 shows brilliantly edited into a witty comic book - with titles that made me laugh like "The Pride of Pradastan".

Anyhoo, I was a little surprised to see style.coms compilation of images meant to push the up-coming Superhero themed Met Ball (hosted by none other than Anna Wintour herself). Just wondering - is she running out of ideas? I'm having flashbacks to the Gisele/LeBron Vogue cover that was oft compared to the Carolyn Murphy/Andre J. French Vogue Roitfeld's cover. Hmm.

Model Citizen

Even though I'm fairly certain that no bagel has past her lovely lips in recent history - the alluring Suzanne Diaz is cute as a button modeling her own styles in NY.

Channeling Alexander Wang...

Alright - I'm well aware that this little ensemble is a rather obvious ode to Alexander Wang - but honestly I don't care. Upon spotting this look from his spring show, I had what Oprah might describe as an "AH-HA" moment. (Omg I can't believe I said that). The mix of the boyfriend jacket with the weathered and worn denim shorts made my heart go pitter-patter. (Zara heels are the icing on top!)

Current Muse: Taylor Tomasi

Featured in many a street style blog after the Fall shows - Taylor Tomasi captures the spirit of real dressing. Mix master that she is, she clearly has the masculine/feminine, hard/soft combos down to a fine science. Favorite labels: Proenza Schouler shoes, Rick Owens, Miu Miu bags, Ann Demeulemeester and little vintage thrown in for good measure.

Like a Gang of Wild Horses

Whilst in New York earlier this week, I made sure to swing by the Barney's shoe floor for the requisite "viewing". Sigh. And of all the lovelies on the floor (Chloe, Prada, Marni etc etc), what caught my eye were a pair of....what shall I call them? Shoe boots? Suitable for pretty much NO season (especially in Mtl) I was disturbingly drawn to them to the point that I was seriously considering dropping some real dough. Barney's accurately describes them as "Open Toe Ankle Boots" - but when you think about what that actually means - it makes no sense. Why would you want your toes exposed while your ankles are undercover? And yet somehow I felt like these bad boys might have been the answer to all my current wardrobe dilemmas. That is until I discovered my size was unavailable. Argh.

Am I going to have to settle for Topshop's interpretation of the (be-still-my-beating-heart) horse tee to satiate my thirst for something Margiela???

Unkle Karl? Is that Chu??

I know all you fashionista's don't give a shit... but you're going to be a whole lot more excited when your boyfriend spends $60 on the Grand Theft Auto 4 - cause Unkle Karl is apparently gracing the best selling games radio station with his presence. According to reports, Lagerfeld has hand-picked some of his favorite tracks to spin on the station while adding snarky commentary. Lagerfeld says, "Music is part of the life of fashion too... I'm very much 'au courant' and know what's going on."

Umm... did his ipod nanny help him with this one?
