Inspiration Aspiration

We are all sponges absorbing music, art, culture, advertising, blogs, life - everything going on around us. Inspiration found in the minutest or grandest of things.

I finally made it to the excellent Van Dongen exhibit today in Montreal, and I wondered if Dries Van Noten had been inspired by Van Dongen's raucous use of colour? He said that his colour was used to depict the intensity of the lives of the women that he painted. (Many of them prostitutes.) It left me wondering, in the shadow of the black-on-black shows this Fall 09... what was Dries excuse?

Van Dongen's paintings are great and his choice of colour just exceptional!! the parallel to Dries van Noten never occured to me, but you are very right! they both show very strong and expressive women, exactly what we need in tough times:)!

Nice comparison...I never thought I'd like pastel colors but Van Noten's converted me.

This Dries Van Noten collection was based off colors in Francis Bacon paintings.
