Chanel Khaki Nail Series

I wish I was posting this because I received this lovely trio of mud-coloured nail shades. Alas - I have not been so lucky. However, as an avid lover of all shades resembling clay, (you can ask Tami at her great nail salon on Duluth St. in Montreal) you can be sure that I will be seeking these out asap and making them my "colours of the season".

Follow Like a Flock of Sheep....

After purchasing and wishing I could return the September issue of American Vogue - yes I get it - it's one big ad for Fashion's Night Out. Just wishing I didn't pay for it?? I went searching for the real deal (aka French Vogue) - heard of it? Stumbled upon Siri Tollerod in the September issue. And folks this is what I'll be "curating" this fall.

THE Acne Leather Dress

This was the dress that street-blogs were made of. Not for the shy-types or faint-of-heart. Style: 100 points. Shape: non-existant. I dreamt and blogged about this dress - until finally finding it at the Want Agency office a season later (and much on sale). Long story short - I've been having an ebay party selling off all the goodies that were unloved in my closet. Now this dress was definitely much loved - but unfortunately not frequently worn. So... I decided it needed a new home - until spotting this pic of Louise Dutoit during Stokholm fashion week Fall 08 (still so good)! What do you think? Keep or quiche? Don't you love her??

Downtown Hike

Inexplicably attracted to any manner of footwear this season that even remotely resembles hiking boots. Dear god - even confess to flirting with owning these (gasp) Tory Burch boots. Have yet to commit... don't know if I can wear something who's provenance is so closely linked to something as uptown as well... Tory Burch? If you have better hiking boot-esque recommendations I implore you to send them and we'll diplomatically take a vote.

Belle Rousse

This post is dedicated to my fearlessly stylish besty - who after years of being a blond - decided to go a fiery shade of red. As anyone who has gone down this road knows - nothing can throw off your wardrobe/make-up routine more than a change in hair colour. All of your tried-and-true go-to's are suddenly all wrong - and other colours that you NEVER would've seen yourself wearing (and don't own) are the ones that look good! More Taylor Tomasi for her wardrobe inspiration...

Khaki
Shades of blue and purple
Black on black
Red lipstick
Tortoise Shell Cat-Eyes

BTW - if anyone owns the 2009 khaki Comme Des Garcons jacket from the first pic and wants to sell it to a loving new home pls. leave link below! (Will share it with my BFF??)

Sock It

Forget about It bags or shoes what about SOCKS? Debatable whether or not you can pull them off (like this) at the office - but like the rest of the fash pack I'm feeling me some socks. You?

J'Aime Mon Carré

Who knew Hermès was so hip? Perhaps cashing in on the au courant 70's trend - Hermès has created a new street-style website to demonstrate their hip-ness to the masses and show the world how the "cool" girls wear their Hermès. As any girl worth her Wang bag would already know -- it's a classic. Period. Knot it, tie it, sling it, wrap it. Kind of hard to do it wrong. If you don't already have your own... you could probably sweet-talk your granny into lending you a few of hers? I'm just saying.

Insouciance

Unbeknownst to me - my wardrobe had turned into a carbon black hole that inadvertently had the life and colour sucked out of it. Since this realisation, I've taken the lead from this Garance Dore protege and injected some new neutrals into it. Navy, tobacco, camel. It's a 12 step program that starts with admitting you have a problem. Go on - you can do it!

F-you attitude and over-the-knee socks not included;)

Mass Consumption

Current crimes against my credit card are on the rise as I seem to be hoarding like a squirrel preparing for the impending winter months. I can only confess my crimes here because I'm assuming my blogger brethren and fashion mavens alike will understand. If you're horrified then turn away now...

The Vagaries of Fashion - Vogue Italia May 08

Dug out of the archives by Fashion Gone Rogue - I'm enamored by this surreal May 2008 Vogue Italia shoot by Miles Alderidge featuring Siri Tollerod. Like a techno-coloured version of Grey Gardens, I can always appreciate a mad-cat lady vibe. This along with the (now slightly overdone?) pastel tinted hair colour and hoards of popsicle coloured clothes and shoes, paints a perfectly eccentric picture. Amore.

Shearling Obsessed

How is it that I'm only now on summer vacation, able to wear all the pretty, summery things, enjoying my midi mini tan, and what's on my mind? SHEARLING?!! Battling a bit of jet-lag - I've been up since the crack-of-dawn perusing a few sites and noticed that it's already sold out many places?! Clearly that can only mean that you're as obsessed as me?

En Vacance...

Ahh what's to say? I feel so fortunate to be taking off in the next few hours for a week in the South of France with my sister! The last month has been truly mad with 2 work trips to Europe and no rest for the wicked in between. So I'm feeling a little like I won the loto with 2 entire weeks off stretched out ahead of me - one of which will comprise of too much chilled French wine, good food, and some family time to decompress. If I can tear myself away from the pool - I will say hello. Wishing that each of you is having a fantastic summer and taking a little time out for yourself. Bis, The Glossy Ed. xx

After The Gold Rush

The 70's are about to become the new 90's (that being the current decade that all hipsters have unabashedly pillaged for the last little while). Prepare for the current MOD (hello model-off-duty??) uniform of combat boots, skinny jeans and leather jackets to be turned on its' head. Are you feeling it?

The Italian Job

Heading to Florence tomorrow for a week of work. Meantime cursing my mild obsession with Stop It Right Now's Fendi Palazzo Bucket Bag, while simutaneously questioning my good fortune that I'm heading to the land of Fendi-o-plenty? Have you noticed that all things logo are about to make a seriously obnoxious come back? Go to Ebay now... seriously.

Oh Canada!

Canadian fashion can be a bit of an oxymoron, with typically cliched images of trapper jackets and Sorel boots coming to mind. And while these are occasionally the norm during some of the icy cold months (mixed with Wang and Margeila?) - there are also a barrage of amazing Canadians currently contributing to the global fashion scene.

Perhaps most obvious, Erdem. The current darling of the London fashion scene, having dressed everyone from MK Olsen to Michelle Obama. This Montreal native and friend is clearly a fashion fixture with a long and successful career ahead of him.

Rad Hourani also comes to mind. The avant-garde Montrealer best know for his androgynous vision of fashion. With disciples (and himself) oft featured on many a streetstyle blog - he too is clearly one to watch.

Mark Fast. Best known for his revolutionary knits and for sending size 12 models (gasp) down the runway - this Canadian is a Winnipeg native and London transplant.

Todd Lynn. Best summarized as Rock Star designer. His enviable list of bespoke clients includes the likes of Janet Jackson, Bono, Marilyn Manson and Mick Jagger.

Other note-worthy, up-and-comers in the Canadian design arena are: Jean-Pierre Braganza, Jeremy Laing, Calla Haynes and Thomas Tait.

Moving on to media-moguls. Before there were superstar bloggers such as Tommy Ton (another Toronto native and clearly no need to expand), there was Tim Blanks. All Canadian fashion followers worth their salt grew up on a steady diet of Tim Blanks' Fashionfile features. Since his departure the show has kind of crashed and burned - but the legendary fashion journalist can now be found contributing at style.com.

Leith Clark Lula Magazine founder/editor and freelance stylist. With a girly dream-scape vision of the fashion world and a cult following to boot - Leith Clark now calls London home and Chanel styling er... her job? Lucky girl.

And finally a relative newcomer but absolute digital media heavy-weight - Imran Amed. Better know as founder and editor of fashion blog, Business of Fashion. Of everyone on the list - this is who's blackberry I'd most like to steal!

Of course who could possibly discuss Canadian fashion without mentioning the maaw-dels! Oops! I mean SUPER models. The list is looooooong. And you know the names. (Daria, Coco, Irina, Stam, Linda.....) And if you've even made it to the end of this exceptionally long post you should win some kind of prize... like some expensive Erdem dress sponsored give-away by some hot Canadian shopping site. Ergh. Except there aren't any?? Sigh. Happy Canada Day to all you lovely Canadians out there!

Acne Resort 2010

2 parts Zoro, one part Three's Company... kind of loving this mash-up. The chunky shoes are quickly feeling like a Fall "must-have". I pulled out my old Acne "Luv Telephone" wide-legs today and they got a little love from the peeps at the office. Are you feeling the 70's vibes?

Common Cents?

Common sense would tell me that such a purchase as this would make absolutely no sense considering the climate in Montreal (and the price tag). There are only 2 seasons - hot and cold. Presently we're experiencing hot - and come October 1st - we will move to cold. There is about one week of true fall weather where you potentially throw on a cape, some cute boots and go for a stroll. But now if Zara decided to do one for $69 I could definitely be tempted. Hint hint.
